"ANARCHY RULZ" FOR MIKE COLSTEN AT FULTON  
FULTON, NY......Mike Colsten was the class of the field in Saturday night's "Anarchy Rulz" event for Modifieds at Fulton Speedway.  Walt McArdell won a hotly contested Sportsman feature event, while Ray Maloney took a photo finish win over Jerry Holmes in the Pro Stocks.  Darren Kelso took the honors in the Pure Stocks, while Mike Lewis captured the win in the 4 Cylinders.  All the feature winners earned guaranteed starting spots for their respective events during the Nice 'N' Easy Grocery Shops Victoria 200 Weekend October 1st-3rd.
 
Mike Colsten grabbed the early lead in the 35-lap "Run-Whatcha-Brung" Modified feature and tried to pull away, while Jim Phelps battled with Chuck Bower for the second spot.  From mid pack, Mitch Gibbs was moving up strongly along with defending race champion John Barker.  Further back in the field, John Cunningham, sporting a wing atop his Modified, and Gus Schmidt were charging up from the rear.
 
Jeremy Smith was also in the thick of things as he battled with Bower while Colsten pulled away.  Gibbs also came up into the battle as Cunningham cracked the top ten.  Schmidt followed suit as Jim Phelps faded back into the top ten and locked up in a battle with Rick Wilk.  Cunningham got as far as fifth before a blown head gasket knocked him out at the halfway point.
 
Gibbs moved past Bower into second, but Colsten was too strong for him as he pulled away again under green.  Jeremy Smith's run ended with mechanical problems less than ten laps from the finish.  Colsten held everyone off on the final restart and cruised home with the win.  Gibbs took second, followed by Barker, Schmidt, and Rick Wilk.  Modified heats were won by Jimmy Phelps, Bower, and Colsten, with Cunningham taking the consi win.
 
The 20-lap Sportsman feature event was a race long battle between Walt McArdell and Willy Decker as they fought for the lead into lapped traffic as the first 13 laps of the feature ran without a yellow.  The restart closed the pack, but once the green was out, McArdell and Decker pulled away again.  Chad Phelps battled with young Paul Kinney for position until Kinney settled himself into the third spot, leaving Phelps to battle with Greg Doust.
 
McArdell held off the determined challenges from Decker to record his first win of the year at Fulton Speedway.  Decker was the runnerup, followed by Kinney, Phelps, and Doust.  Sportsman heats were won by McArdell, Decker, and Dan Vail.
 
The 20-lap Pro Stock feature was a tight battle amongst the top five the entire race, with Ray Maloney holding court at the front of the field.  In the back of the pack, there was plenty of action as John Pietrowicz was coming up from the rear of the field after an early race spin.  Two contenders were lost when John Cooper and Scott Moyer got hooked up in turns one and two.  That closed the ranks and allowed second place runner Jerry Holmes to get a run at Maloney.
 
The final few laps were very exciting as Maloney and Holmes battled it out, with Holmes actually taking the lead in turn two of the final lap.  Maloney ran the outside in turns three and four, and the extra momentum added up to a victory by mere inches over Holmes.  Pietrowicz came home third, followed by Bruce Hovis and Dave Moyer.  Pro Stock heats were won by Maloney, Rick Breed, and Pietrowicz.
 
The 15-lap Pure Stock feature event was dominated by Darren Kelso, who took his seventh feature event of the season, easily outdistancing the field.  Scott Grevelding hung on to second, with Bruce Stanton, Herm Staats, and Art Newman.  Pure Stock heats were won by Kelso, Don Stevenson, and Jeff Pastorella.
 
The 12-lap 4 Cylinder feature saw Roger West Jr. and Lloyd Hinton battle for the lead until West threw a right front tire and dropped out.  On the restart, Hinton dropped off the pace, leaving John West in the lead with Mike Lewis running in second.  Lewis was able to pass West with two to go and claim the victory.  Roger Olchewske, Bob Whipple, and Kevan Cook completed the top five.  4 Cylinder heats were won by Hinton and Roger West Sr.
 
Next Saturday night is a busy one at Fulton as the Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks will be joined by the New York State Championship events for IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf cars, and 4 Cylinders.  An Enduro is also on tap with gates opening at 5pm and racing starting at 7pm.
