PLANCK ENDS DREAM SEASON WITH VICTORIA 200 WIN
FULTON, NY - Dale Planck capped off his 1994
dream season at Fulton Speedway by winning the ninth annual Victoria 200 on
September 17. Planck added the Victoria 200 win to his Fulton Speedway season
track championship, as well as the NASCAR Winston Racing Series regional
championship. The Victoria200 win for the Homer, N.Y. driver was worth $22,581.
Rich Ricci Jr. raced out to the early lead at the start of the ninth annual
Victoria 200 from the pole starting position. Ricci led the opening ten laps of
the event before Randy Glenski took possession of the top spot. Ricci was
looking to take the lead back from Glenski on lap 19 when he caught the inside
dirt bank of the track which set his car over. Ricci was uninjured, but finished
last.
Tom Kinsella appeared to be the driver to beat in the 1994 Victoria 200.
Kinsella moved from the tenth starting position to the lead in 34 laps. But,
Kinsella's down fall came on lap 90 when he ran out of fuel. Planck inherited
the lead at this time and went on to lead at the end of the 100 lap segment.
Ron Holmes did pass Planck on lap 97, but at the halfway mark Planck was the
leader. And during the last half of the event Planck would not give the lead
away and he went on to his first ever Victoria 200 win. Planck became the third
straight Fulton Speedway regular to win the event.
Rookie Ron Holmes drove a great race and earned $10,000 for his second place
finish. Mike Colsten, Dave House and Kenny Brightbill completed the top five
finishers. Brightbill came back from losing a lap during the first 100 laps.
But, only two caution periods slowed action in the final 100, that left
Brightbill unable to make up the ground. A total of 95 cars attempted to qualify
for the event.
