JENSEN LEADS THE WAY IN EIGHTH ANNUAL FULTON VICTORIA 200
FULTON, NY - The 1993 season at Fulton Speedway
was certainly not a kind one to veteran Paul Jensen. Make that the regular
season, however, as the Edmeston, N.Y. driver recorded the win in the 1993
Victoria 200 on September 18. The total winnings for Jensen in the base purse,
lap money and contingencies came to $21,108.
Jeff Walton led the opening circuit of the 1993 Victoria200 from the pole
starting position. Walton would only lead the first tour, as Doug Fuller took
over on lap two. Fuller led through lap 32 before Gordy Button took the lead
away. Fuller came back to lead laps 37-39, with Button leading the way again on
lap 40.
Billy Pauch, as usual, moved into contention for the Victoria 200 win in the
early going. Pauch ran down the leaders, but would eventually drop out with
brake problems and a cut tire on lap 55. At the end of the opening 100 laps
Jensen owned a comfortable lead over Dale Planck, J.J. Michaels, Frank Cozze and
Button.
Jensen pretty much owned the second 100 laps, which was only slowed five times
for 17 laps. Cozze tried to pressure Jensen into a mistake to win his second
Victoria 200 in a row, but it wasn't going to happen. Jensen went on to the
biggest win of his career that turned his miserable season around.
Cozze had to settle for second, while Southern tier veteran Chuck Akulis made a
great late race charge to finish third. It was the best ever finish for Akulis
in the Victoria 200. Fulton regulars Dale Planck and Randy Glenski completed the
top five in the eighth annual classic.
A total of 44 drivers started the 1993 version of the Victoria 200 which took
place in front of another large crowd.
