ALAN JOHNSON WINS FERRIS INDUSTRIES SHOWDOWN AT SUNDOWN AT FULTON SPEEDWAY

FULTON, NY (June 9) - As the summer season starts to heat up so is defending Mr. DIRTcar Modified champion Alan Johnson. Johnson out ran Pat Ward and Brett Hearn to capture the 100 lap "Showdown At Sundown," sponsored by Ferris Industries. The victory was worth $6,000 on the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRTcar Series. Other winners on the night were, Shawn Donath in DIRTcar Sportsman class, Dave Mannise grabbed his 68th career win at the speedway in the UMP Street Stocks, Brad Godshalk picked up his second consecutive win in the Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman and Mark Johnston was first under the checkers in the 4-Cylinder Enduro.

Tim Fuller jumped out to the early lead and looked to be the favorite in the 100 lap main. Fuller was able to maintain the lead until Pat Ward slipped by on lap 10, that lead was short lived as Fuller blasted back by Ward to reclaim the lead

While Fuller and Ward were battling for the top spot Alan Johnson and Brett Hearn were having a battle of their own and gaining on the two leaders. Hearn was using the top of the speedway while Johnson hugged the bottom. On lap 20 Johnson was able to fight his way around Fuller for his first lead of the night. In past years at Fulton when Johnson had the lead you could write the check in Alan’s name and call it a night. Brett Hearn using the top of the speedway, powered his way around Johnson on lap 22 and lead for the next nine laps before giving the top spot back to Johnson on lap 32.

The final 68 laps were anything but a cake walk for Alan Johnson. Constant pressure from Ward and Hearn, plus heavy lapped traffic and caution periods had Johnson earn every cent of his winners share. Pat Ward, Brett Hearn, Jimmy Phelps and Tim Fuller completed the top five.

After his victory Johnson was all smiles with his car owner Wallace Stacey, standing next to the Bully’s Truck Stop, No.14j, “We have been struggling lately but the crew has just kept digging, especially tonight. They made the right changes and it paid off. It also helped to have home track advantage tonight," laughed Johnson.

Pat Ward was happy with his run in the Gypsum Express, No.42p. “All those cautions sure didn’t help. The car was really strong the more laps we put on it," We might of had something for Alan if we could of gotten longer green flag runs."

"It’s tough to tell if we would have had anything for them," related Hearn about running on the very top of the track, " We were running where nobody else was so it’s hard to say if lapped traffic could of helped. Hearn finished by saying they will take the third place finish and move onto the next one.

Shawn Donath picked up his second win of the year tying him for victories with Sammy Reakes IV. Donath grabbed the lead early on and cruised to the win. Third place in the points John Pietrowicz finished in second, points leader Sammy Reakes finished third followed by Chris Hile and Jeremy Pitcher.

Dave Mannise came off his two week suspension and posted his 68th career win at the high banks in the UMP Street Stock/ Pure Stock feature. Steve Crouse, Nick Rizzo, Jim Wallace and Joe Buske were the top finishers.

Brad Godshalk grabbed his second consecutive win in the Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman class. Sean McCarthy had another top finish in the runner up spot. Mike Fowler, Katelyn Kane and Jake Reilley completed the top five.

Mark Johnston won another 4-Cylinder Enduro, chasing him across the line was Jerry Herbert, Kelly Smith, Les Baker and Jon Shumway.

The results were evident throughout the evening and many drivers praised the excellent track conditions. Forty two Modifieds took time with Matt Sheppard grabbing the INTEGRA SHOCKS fast time award. It took four qualifying heats and two consi’s to set the 32 car field.
