“DREAM” WEAVER WINS FIRST EVER FULTON SPEEDWAY MODIFIED FEATURE

FULTON, NY - Brian "The Dream" Weaver of Windsor made the long tow North pay off as he found himself in victory lane Saturday night at Fulton Speedway winning the 35 lap DIRTcar Modified feature. For Weaver it was his first ever victory on the high banks. Other winners were Shawn Donath, in the DIRTcar Sportsman, Jason Parkhurst in DIRTcar  Pro Stocks, Dan Williams in the ESDCA Mod Lites, and Sean Mc Carthy in the Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman.

Weaver, in the Field’s Used Furniture, No. 1a took advantage of an up-front starting position and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green. Every time it looked like Weaver would run away and hide brief yellow flags would fly to bunch up the pack. As the race went on Scott Prentice in the No. 47 and a hard-charging Alan Johnson in the Bully’s Truck Stop, No. 14 j gained ground on the high-flying Weaver when lapped traffic came into play. With five laps to go Weaver had lap traffic work to his advantage. Using a lapped car as a pick going into turn one. That move proved to be the difference in the race as Weaver cruised the rest of the way for the win.

"This is great," stated a happy Brian Weaver after jumping off the roof of his winning car. "Running down home is so much different than coming up here to race," Weaver said in talking about the different tires they run down in the Southern Tier. "The track surface tonight was great, they keep this up we will be back every week." Weaver finished up by saying not only was it his first Fulton Speedway win, but his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified win.

Scott Prentice settled for second with Alan Johnson third. Jimmy Phelps came from 14th to finish fourth with Sean Beardsley in fifth.

In the Sportsman 20 lap feature it appeared that Alan Fink was heading to his first victory in the No.28, but defending track champion Shawn Donath had other ideas. With four laps to go and racing in lapped traffic Donath used the outside groove to grab the lead and park the Daniels & Mayfield, No.87 in victory lane.

"It's great to get this first win out of the way," said Donath. In 2006 the track champion didn't get his first win till late in the season. Donath ended up saying, "This kind of proves people wrong who were predicting our demise this season."

Alan Fink held on for second followed by the brothers Rob and Chris Hile, and John Pietrowicz in fifth.

In Pro Stock action Jason Parkhurst in the Jays Welding, No.38 out ran Billy Clark Jr. and the rest of the field to grab win number two in the young season. With the win Parkhurst holds on to a slim four point lead over Clark.

After his win Parkhurst talked about his early season success, "Maybe it's the new body on the car, I don't know. We really lightened up the car over the winter and that has seemed to make all the difference so far." Parkhurst also credited his engine builder for the power under the hood.

The ESDCA feature looked to be once again the battle of the Williams brothers and Tim Devendorf. Suddenly coming out of turn four the No.02 of Doug Williams broke, retiring to the pits early on. From then on Dan Williams and Devendorf put on a driving clinic, racing nose to tail and side by side. The slide jobs they pulled on each other were textbook moves. Coming down to the finish it was Williams taking the checkers by a slim margin.

"That was fantastic racing," Williams said in victory lane. “That was racing the way it should be when you trust who you’re racing with."

The drivers in the Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman class have shown steady improvement this season. Tonight was no exception as it was a clean and competitive race. Sean McCarthy was able to run down early leader Timmy Sears Jr. to be the first under the checkers. Brad Godshalk, Laslow  Howiefeld and Earl Rudy were the top finishers.

In the now weekly Enduro feature Jon Shumway won a spirited battle with Mark Johnson for the entire 15 lap distance. Joe Buske Jr. , Les Baker and Jacob Palmiter completed the top five.

Coming up this Saturday May 26 is the always popular Syracuse.com Family Autograph Night. Scheduled in race competition are the DIRTcar Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, DIRTcar Pro Stocks, UMP Street Stocks, Gypsum Express Crate Sportsman, 4-Cylinder Enduros, and a special appearance by the Stephane LaFrance Trick Race Products Exhibition car. Racing will begin at 7pm. For more information, contact the track office at (315) 593-6531 or visit www.fultonspeedway.com.

FULTON PIT NOTES....... After the nights racing general manager T.J Fitzgibbons commented on the dusty conditions. He related that last season drivers complained about the uke tires lining the inside of the turns. This season they were removed. Tonight a lot of drivers were driving through the infield kicking up dust and dry clay onto the racing surface creating the dusty conditions. Fitzgibbons said that problem will be taken care of. Twenty- four Modifeds, twenty- two Sportsman, fourteen Pro Stocks and twenty -four Mod Lites lined the pits.
