PRO STOCK DIVISION DROPPED FROM WEEKLY FULTON SPEEDWAY RACING
FULTON, NY – Fulton Speedway race officials announced today that the long standing UMP Pro Stock class has been dropped from the weekly race schedule for the 2008 race season.
With several years in a row of steadily declining car counts coupled with drivers moving out of the division to other classes, the decision had to be made. Fulton Speedway management would like to thank all those concerned for their understanding and appreciates the race teams that made the class one of the most exciting to watch over the years. There will be no new division to replace the Pro Stocks on the weekly 2008 schedule, which will help streamline the racing program.
Many of the 2007 Pro Stock teams will still be in the pit area at Fulton Speedway every Saturday, due to the emergence of the GM Crate Motor. Some drivers, such as 2006-2007 Track Champion Billy Clark Jr., are moving up to the DIRTcar Sportsman division and others are dropping down to the UMP Street Stocks.
Each Saturday night from early April through early September, Fulton Speedway will come alive with exciting stock car racing headlined by the DIRTcar Big Block Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, and UMP Street Stock divisions. The Sportsman class will be all-crate for 2008 as planned, while the UMP Street Stock division will have the Crate Motor as an option with their rules locked solid for 2 years.
Fulton Speedway will also host the 4-Cylinder Enduro division on a weekly basis. Special appearances will be made during the season by the Sprint Cars, Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club, Mini-Sprints, and more. The highly successful Beginner’s Crate Sportsman class will likely return weekly to the high banks at Fulton. The continuation of the division is pending sponsorship for 2008 and track management hopes to have the class return.
Fulton Speedway, along with sister track Brewerton Speedway, will allow 358-Modifieds to run with their Big Block Modified counterparts in a combined weekly DIRTcar Modified division offering DIRTcar Big Block Modified points. The 358-Modifieds will race under 2004 DIRT Rules, with no rev limiter, open carburetor, and a weight of 2,400 pounds. The 358-Modifieds will also not receive 358-Modified points or bonus and will be treated as a Big Block with the Hoosier tire mandatory.
Fulton Speedway will host the highly anticipated Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Modified Series for a 100-lap special on Saturday June 7. Fulton Speedway will be a part of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series and the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship Series on Friday October 3 during the 2008 Vic 200 Weekend.
The 2008 Vic 200 Weekend will be held for the 23rd time at the historic Fulton Speedway from October 2-4, with a weekend raindate of Sunday October 5. The entire Fulton Speedway 2008 race season will culminate with the unsanctioned Vic 200 for Modifieds on Saturday October 4.
Season tickets for the grandstands and pit area are currently on sale for both speedways with a special discounted price. The tracks are now on schedule for an April 2008 opening. Track management wishes everyone a Happy New Year.
