JANCZUK AND DECKER WIN RAIN-DELAYED VICTORIA CHAMPIONSHIPS FROM FRIDAY AT FULTON SPEEDWAY
FULTON, NY – Matt Janczuk and Kurt Decker won the rain-delayed Victoria Championships from Friday night on Saturday at Fulton Speedway. Janczuk was the victor in the $1,700 to win Motorsports Expo / Gater News Sportsman Victoria Championship while Decker won the $500 to win Topstitch Custom Embroidery Pure Stock Victoria Championship. Both drivers had to work hard to earn their victories on the slick 3/8-mile clay oval.
Matt Janczuk of Sherrill claimed the 30-lap Motorsports Expo / Gater News Sportsman Victoria Championship from the sixth starting position. The feature was on lap 4 with Russ Hefti leading when the rains began falling on Friday night. Hefti led the opening 20 circuits with Janczuk and track champion Shawn Donath battling it out for second. On lap 21, Janczuk peeked underneath Hefti for the lead as the two drivers worked in and out of lapped traffic. Both drivers continued their battle with Hefti momentarily leading laps 24 and 25. With 4 laps to go, Janczuk took the lead for the final time and led the remainder of the distance. Hefti, the defending winner, had to settle for second, with Brian Sage in third, Shawn Donath in fourth, and Sammy Reakes, IV in fifth.
Kurt Decker of Afton won his first ever Fulton Pure Stock feature in the 25-lap Top Stitch Custom Embroidery Pure Stock Victoria Championship. The invading Decker who started third had to wrestle the lead away from defending champion Frank Burnell Jr. on lap 13. Decker led the remainder of the affair, with Burnell settling for second. Denny Decker was third, followed by Rusty Marsden and Mike Welch. Completing the top ten it was guaranteed starter Butch Green, Todd Raabe, Ron Marsden, Ron Hawker, and Quinton Burton.
Today, September 30, the entire Victoria 200 program will be run. The Modified Heat Draw will be held in front of the grandstands at approximately 2:15pm. Hot Laps, Heat Races, Consi Races, Fernandez Auto Mall All-Star Event, and the Victoria 200 will follow thereafter, with the schedule subject to change.
