WILLIAMS, POWELCZYK, MCCONNELL WIN VICTORIA CHAMPIONSHIPS ON CANALE INSURANCE NIGHT

FULTON, NY – Post season race action continued last Saturday night September 16 at Fulton Speedway on Canale Insurance Night. Claiming wins in the Victoria Championships were Doug Williams in the ESDCA Mod Lites, Chuck Powelczyk in the 4-Cylinder Super Stocks, and Jake McConnell in the 4-Cylinder Enduro. Also winning were Matt Janczuk in the DIRT Sportsman, Billy Clark in the DIRT Pro Stocks, and Steve Crouse in the Pure Stocks.

Doug Williams of Hastings won the 36-lap ESDCA Mod Lite Victoria Championship feature run in memory of Doug Cooper, who lost his life in 1997 at the speedway. Williams came from the eighth starting position to take the lead from early leader and second place finisher Tim Devendorf on lap 12 en-route to the victory, his fourth of the season. Ken Gamlen was third, followed by Frank Doll Jr. and Rocco Leone. With his strong second place finish, Devendorf claimed the 2006 Track Championship.

Likely the most thrilling event of the night was the 50-lap 4-Cylinder Enduro Victoria Championship race which featured multiple lead changes. Jake McConnell won his first ever Fulton feature, with Charles DeGroff in second, Morris Mathews in third, Randy Shantel in fourth, and Bob Tefft in fifth. Chad Guthrie won the Enduro track title.

Chuck Powelczyk of West Monroe inherited the 20-Lap 4-Cylinder Super Stock Victoria Championship win after leader Joey Delacruz broke with three laps to go. Both drivers spent most of the race side by side, swapping the lead several times. Delacruz had to retire to the pits, while Powelczyk won his fourth race of the year while holding off Rich Murtaugh, Claude Hutchings Jr., Aron Backus, and Sam Curcie to the finish.

Invader Matt Janczuk of Oneida won his first ever 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature, giving him a guaranteed starting spot in the Motorsports Expo / Gater News Victoria Championship Super DIRT Series event on September 29. Janczuk started sixth on the field taking the lead from early leader Roy Bresnahan on lap 2. Second was Mike Conrow, followed by Jim Bowman, Mark Davison, and Jeff Stevenson.

Billy Clark Jr. of Fulton started third and capped off his track title with his sixth 20-lap DIRT Pro Stock feature win of the year. Dick Parkhurst was a strong second, followed by Curt Prevo, invader Chris Mackey, and Ron Marsden. Jason Parkhurst led the first three laps, while Clark led the remainder of the distance. Dick Parkhurst was the Leaf Racewear Victoria Pro Stock Super DIRT Series Championship qualifier as Clark is already guaranteed.

Steve Crouse won the 20-lap Pure Stock feature event, making him guaranteed for the Top Stitch Custom Embroidery Victoria Championship in September 29. Crouse, of Fulton, started on the pole and led the entire distance, beating Steve Woodworth, Mike Schultz, Gary Barton, and Dan Hofmann Sr. to the flags.

Fulton Speedway will take next Saturday September 23 off in preparation for the 21st Annual Victoria 200 Weekend on September 28-30. Thursday September 28 will kick off the weekend with hot lap sessions for all divisions plus a pitside party.
