DECKER PASSES JOHNSON FOR DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN ON BASSETT WHEELS
NIGHT
|
The Franklin Flyer Billy Decker of Unadilla won his second DIRT Modified feature of the season last Saturday. |
FULTON,
NY...Billy Decker earned his second 35-lap Fulton Speedway DIRT Big Block
Modified feature win Saturday on Bassett Wheels Night in thrilling fashion.
Decker passed Alan Johnson on lap-27 of the main event and never looked
back. The victory for the Gypsum Wholesalers DIRT Big Block Modified team
was worth $2,000.
Jim Witko raced out to the early lead at the start of the Bassett
Wheels DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the outside pole starting
position. After five circuits Witko continued to lead and was being followed
in the top five by Decker, Vinnie Vitale, Ryan Phelps and Ricky Breed. Witko
was turning in his best performance of the season leading the talented
field.
At the halfway mark of the main event Witko was still leading the field
with Alan Johnson, Decker, Vitale and Phelps following in the top five. Matt
Sheppard, Jimmy Phelps, Jeff Rudalavage, Pat Ward and Tim Fuller raced in
positions sixth through tenth respectively. Johnson took the top spot away
from Witko on lap-20.
Once in front Johnson attempted to open up a lead, but Decker had a
different plan. Decker started to close in on Johnson by flying around the
top side of the track. On lap-27 Decker was the new race leader as he
stormed by Johnson. The race was still close until the finish, but Decker
crossed the finish line first.
Johnson had to settle for second with Ward, Phelps and Sheppard
completing the top five feature finishers. Fuller, Rudalavage, Vitale, John
Barker and Witko finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
Mike Teachout claimed his first ever DIRT Sportsman feature race
victory Saturday night. Kevin Bates, Sam Reakes IV, Ryan Richardson and Tom
Juhl followed Teachout across the finish line. Teachout took the top spot
away from Ryan Richardson on the third circuit and he would lead the
talented field past the finish line first on lap-20.
Ray Maloney won his first Fulton Speedway Pro Stock feature race of the
2004 season Saturday night. Lee Burnett, T.J. Fitzgibbons, Bob Buono and
John Pietrowicz finished in positions second through fifth respectively.
Maloney passed Burnett with just two laps remaining to record the feature
victory which wasn't decided until the finish line.
Dan Hoffman Sr. won his second straight Pure Stock main event Saturday
night. Ricky DeGroff, Curt Prevo, Joe Buske and Phil Marsden chased Hofmann
across the finish line. Hofmann took the top spot away from Prevo on lap-11
and he would lead the rest of the distance in the 15-lap event.
Chad Guthrie earned the victory in the Four Cylinder Enduro main event.
Jerry Herbert, Robert Burke, Mark Johnston and Morris Mathews followed
Guthrie across the finish line.
Professional DIRT Motorsports competition will continue this Saturday
with a big five division show. The DIRT Big Block Modifieds will race in a
35-lap event with a separate 25-lap event for the DIRT 358 Modifieds. The
DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be in action. Race
