ALAN
JOHNSON WINS BOTH DIRT 358 MODIFIED FEATURES ON COORS LIGHT NIGHT
FULTON, NY...Alan Johnson won both 35-lap DIRT 358 Modified feature races
at Fulton Speedway last Saturday on Coors Light Night. It was the fourth
and fifth victories of the season for Johnson at the Home of the Dynomax
Victoria 200 and all of those triumphs have come in the second-half of the
season. Jeff Rudalavage had a strong night and finished second in both
events.
Ken Johnson raced out to the early lead at the
start of the rain delayed DIRT 358 Modified feature from the outside pole
starting position. Johnson only led the opening circuit as Jeremy Smith
took command of the 26-car starting field on lap two. With ten laps
compete Smith was being followed in the top five by Jimmy Phelps, Todd
Burley, Justin Haers and Jim Witko.
Jimmy Phelps took the lead away from Smith on lap
13. Phelps was running strong in the lead, but a flat left front tire
would eventually send him pitside. Alan Johnson took the top spot away
from Phelps on lap 21. In the closing laps Johnson never looked back and
claimed the win for the Kingsley/Spraker Team. Jeff Rudalavage made a late
race charge to finish second.
Tim Fuller finished third and in the process took
over the season point lead after Dale Planck failed to finish. Impressive
rookie driver Craig Terrell finished fourth and Tom Sears followed in
fifth. Todd Burley, Jeremy Smith, Justin Haers, Jim Witko and Dave
Rauscher finished in positions sixth through tenth respectively.
At the start of the regular 35-lap feature Dave
Reilley led the opening circuit from the outside pole starting position.
Both Reilley and Gus Schmidt battled for the top spot from the start and
Schmidt led the second circuit. The lead duo caught tires out of the
second turn on lap two and that sent Schmidt into the fence and into a
roll. Tom Sears clipped Schmidt's car and somehow the rest of the field
was able to avoid the mishap. All drivers were uninured.
When the race resumed Reilley was once again the
leader and this time the veteran would lead through lap 14. Johnson took
the top spot away from Reilley on lap 15 after working up from the 17th
starting position. The race was far from over, however, as Jimmy Phelps
was flying around the top side of the track. Phelps was able to close
right in on Johnson as the lead duo raced around lapped traffic.
A caution with four laps to go turned out to be a
benefit to Johnson as the traffic problem was gone. In the final laps
Rudalavage made another late race charge to finish second while Phelps had
to settle for a strong third. Fuller and Tom Kinsella completed the top
five feature finishers. Planck, Tim Burnett, Scott Prentice, Jeremy Smith
and John Barker crossed the finish line in positions sixth through tenth
respectively.
Bill Shantel Jr. won his first Fulton Speedway
DIRT Sportsman feature race of the season last Saturday night. Steve Way,
Ron Loveless, Jeremy Pitcher and Jim Livingston followed Shantel across
the finish line. Shantel took the top spot away from Jordan Bennett on lap
three and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.
Jeremy Clark took a big step towards his second
straight Fulton Speedway DIRT Pro Stock Track Championship by winning
another main event last Saturday night. Lee Burnett, Jason Rood, John
Pietrowicz and Dave Meeks followed Clark across the finish line. Clark
took the lead awy from Rood on lap-11 and led the rest of the distance in
the 20-lap event.
Todd Storace returned to the winners circle at
the conclusion of the 15-lap Pure Stock feature. Phil Marsden, Russ
Marsden, Gary Barton and Bill Clark followed Storace across the finish
line. Storace took the top spot away from Barton on lap seven and led the
rest of the distance.
Action will continue this Saturday at Fulton
Speedway with the DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks,
Pure Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro cars all in action plus a Drivers
Tug of War. Race time is set for 7 p.m. For more information please call
the track office at 315-593-6531.
