Brewerton And Fulton Speedway Welcome Cory Reed For The 2011 Racing Season

FULTON, NY — November 22, 2010 (By Dave Medler) — Brewerton Speedway and Fulton Speedway are pleased to welcome Cory Reed as the new Director of Marketing. With the DIRTcar Racing Champions Banquet this weekend, Reed wrapped up 2010 as General Manager of Canandaigua Speedway, Cayuga County Fair Speedway and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park and is eager to begin his new role.

Reed has been a significant part of DIRTcar Racing on the series and track levels for several years since he returned to his native Northeast surroundings from Indiana University. His DIRTcar career started as an intern under legendary promoter and DIRT Motorsports founder Glenn Donnelly.

“For all my working life, I have been able to work with some of the best “short track racing” people. Starting with Glenn, and working closely with people like Gaston Salvas, Patrick Donnelly, Gary Spaid and Tom Skibinski, they have been great friends, mentors, as well as great advocates of short track racing. Under World Racing Group and Tom Deery, I was the competition and series director for the past several years until I focused my attention more on the weekly events at CCFS, Canandaigua and Rolling Wheels.”

Reed shares a passion for short track racing with John and Laura Wight, who own Brewerton and Fulton. He believes he can help those tracks continue to succeed as DIRTcar-sanctioned venues.

“What intrigues me is I’m all about short track racing on dirt,” Reed says. “As far as I’m concerned, the weekly short track is where it’s at and Harvey (Fink), John, Laura, Pat and all the folks at those two tracks have the exact same interest. I used to think that I went to a lot of races until John and Laura came along. There aren’t too many nights from April through October that they aren’t at — or driving to — a dirt track race. It’s what they are into. I respect that and feel the same way. I think it’s what has made Brewerton so popular. People know they want the tracks to be there, and that’s really why John and Laura own them. They are busy enough already that they don’t need this, but without them the tracks may not even be there. So that is refreshing. John, Harvey and I also share very similar ideas about the future. We need to look at this sport one, three, five and 10 years out and start setting some goals and direction now to solidify the future.”

Reed will lean heavily on the wide-ranging knowledge he gained while working in several capacities for DIRTcar Racing.

“My experience in so many facets of this sport I think is what brought me there and will help me contribute,” Reed says. “Specifically we need to increase sponsorship sales at both tracks. Much of my efforts will be put into that, as well as being a point of contact for the speedways. I try to dig in and make stuff happen so I doubt there will be much I’m not involved in on some level or another. Also we need to build on the family atmosphere at Fulton while continuing the no-nonsense hardcore racing atmosphere at Brewerton. Harvey has been around for so long and has done such an outstanding job at both tracks. It’ll be great learning from him, as well. I’ll have had the opportunity to learn under some of the best promoters in the country, which is an honor and has helped me get where I am today.”

Reed expects to be very accessible at the tracks and in the communities, having learned that building relationships is the key to success.
